Using IPS: Introduction
IPS stands for International Payroll and HR System. It is a
system that can be used as both a Human Resources and/or a Payroll
application.
The IPS access privileges are restricted according the specific
user job-related tasks and responsibilities.
- Users from the Human Resources staff may have the
privilege to edit employee data and can keep track of employee
hires, terminations, headcounts, transfers, and managing job titles
and employee salaries.
- In some company offices, like those in Canada, Dominican
Republic, Fiji, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Jamaica, Philippines, and
certain locations in Mexico, IPS interacts with the FEPS.
The FEPS (Front End Payroll System) provides features to do
the following:
- Register and track employee time and attendance.
- Submit and track piece rate transactions for ABC employees
(Achievement Based Compensation).
- Calculate employee gross pay according employee pay type
(salary, hourly, piece rate)
Basically, in the aforementioned locations, the FEPS is used to
calculate employee earnings while employee deductions and local
benefits are calculated by the IPS. Users from the Finance and
Payroll department may use IPS to access all payroll related
info and particular payroll reports, like transaction detail or
payroll summary breakdown. However, they do not have access to
modify employee personal info as this falls within the
responsibility of the HR office.
- Users from the Operations side, like production
managers, supervisors or team leaders, may use the IPS along with
the FEPS system to record and monitor employee time and
attendance. In compliance with company policies, the access
privileges of these users are restricted to view only basic
employee data, like names and working hierarchy.
- IPS features a "minimal access" user account, which is used in
locations where IPS is used as the payroll application. This
account allows all users to have access to view their own personal
pay slip at the end of every pay period.
Viewing their own pay slip is the only access privilege in "minimal
access" user accounts.
